History
Where we came from and where we're going
Gymnastics has a long and rich history in this town, in fact Maryborough established one of the first recognised gymnastics clubs in Queensland! Gymnastics first started here in 1963 with the introduction of Trampoline Sports. After 2 years, gymnastics classes were added to the disciplines offered. 2023 marks 60 years of gymnastics in Maryborough. In that time the gymnastics and trampoline sporting clubs here have exposed thousands of children and adults - schools, sports clubs and community members - to the wonderful sport of Gymnastics.
In 2007, Maryborough Trampoline and Gymnastics Club, and Timber City Gymnastics Club, who were using our facilities joined together to form Maryborough GymSports.
The original Clubhouse (the Trampoline hall side) was built after much fundraising. The extension (the gymnastics hall side) was built on in 1999/2000 The club still uses the original building, although much time, money and effort, over many years, has been put into making the full venue align with current design and safety requirements. This has only been possible through countless local businesses/tradespeople, grants and club volunteers (staff, committee, gymnasts and their family members). Those who’ve donated above and beyond are recognised on the Club Honour Board upstairs.
Maryborough Trampoline & Gymnastics Club had many representatives represent Maryborough, Queensland and Australia at state, national and international competitions in Artistic Gymnastics and Trampoline Sports. These competitors’ names can be found on the honour boards situated upstairs in the Trampoline Hall.
Did you know? The flags hanging on the back wall of the gymnastics hall are from different countries where Maryborough Gymnasts and Trampolinists competed at International events.
With 60 years of history, Maryborough GymSports continues to develop and expand its program to the community, through offering different gymnastics disciplines, school and community involvement, programs/displays. The club still offers competitive endeavors for those who are up to the challenge.
