Trampoline Sports
Trampoline Sports is the perfect sport to teach your child safe and developmentally sound aerial skills, whilst also developing co-ordination and body awareness.
Are you looking for a safe and fun sport that will have your child reaching for new heights?
Trampoline Sports is the perfect sport to teach your child safe and developmentally sound aerial skills, whilst also developing co-ordination and body awareness. It is the perfect sport for bold high-flyers who want to jump, sault, twist and enjoy being airborne. Whether you bounce on the trampoline, the double mini tramp or down the tumble track, the fundamental skills are the same and lead on to an amazing awareness of where your body is in space.
At MGS we are the only club on the Fraser Coast that has this program and accredited trampoline and tumbling coaches. In fact, Maryborough is one of the longest running trampoline programs in the State of Queensland, starting in 1963!
Trampoline Gymnastics:
- Develops confident body movement, both on and off the ground
- Builds strength and prepares the body for challenges in life
- Challenges the mind and body to reach new goals
- Develops posture and agility, including the ability to land safely
- Is conducted in safely equipped environments with accredited trampoline coaches
Sessions-
Check the timetable for days and sessions. Trampoline Gymnastics caters for adults and children wanting to keep fit and train with their friends.
We also have tumbling as a stand-alone class at a beginner and intermediate stage (intermediate is part of the Saturday dance program).
Apparatus
There are four competitive disciplines of Trampoline Gymnastics:
Trampoline: A single competitor performs routines combining ten different skills, judged and scored on the quality of performance, the degree of difficulty and the time of flight.
Synchronised Trampoline: Two competitors bounce on separate trampolines, aiming to match their skilled performances to perfection.
Double-Mini Trampoline: Two to three skills are performed in sequence, one on the DMT mount bed (one on the spotter bed) and one to dismount.
Tumbling: Tumblers perform two passes demonstrating sequences of forward, backward and side ward skills, rotating from hands to feet and feet to feet.
The beginner level 1 program fills fast!
Should there be no spaces available in the trampoline program, you could try out the power tumbling program (when available). Otherwise, athletes will be offered other programs, like gymnastics and be put on the trampoline waiting list until a space opens.
Transfer to MGS
Athletes who are transferring to MGS need to show evidence from their former club of levels passed in Trampoline, Double Mini and/or Power Tumbling to be placed in a class suitable to their level
Pathways for Trampoline Sports at Maryborough GymSports
Trampoline Sports is suitable for:
Children - the beginner starts in the level 1 Trampoline Sports Class. which is 90 minutes per session, once a week.
(See Lil' Gym for programs suitable for girls and boys aged 6 and under.)
As the athlete moves up the levels or wants to do more complex skills, the frequency and duration of training increases to help ensure a sufficient amount of time on drills, skills strength and conditioning is spent. As they say, "you get out what you put in".
Teenagers - New to the sport? Teens can try out the teenager's class or give the levels program a go. The coach will be able to advise of what pathway to continue on after this according to many elements like the trampolinist's goals and skill set.
Adults - if you'd like to try out trampolining, it is part of our adult gym sports class. Adults can enquire at the office if they'd like to do more trampoline specific classes in the levels program or competitive pathway.
Competitions
Once you've mastered the basics, you can keep developing your skills for fun and fitness or challenge yourself through competitions.Beginners in level 1 - 2 can compete in Southern Queensland or Central Queensland interclub, our Twist and Flip competitions when they are ready.Athletes in level 3A are eligible to compete at the QLD State Championships, whilst higher levels can compete at National and international events.
The world is your oyster with trampoline being an Olympic sport and has been since the Sydney Games in 2000. It has been an international world sport for more years past this too. In 2032, we look forward to having it on home soil again, with the QLD High Performance program in Brisbane nurturing the next generation of international competitors.
Trampoline is an age inclusive sport and allows for children as young as 6 through to adults to compete in front of suitably qualified judges.
Progression
At Maryborough GymSports we use the Trampoline Australian Levels Program to guide to skill level placement. It is imperative for safety that correct mastery of the basics is achieved before learning more advanced skills.Levels 1 - 4 can be assessed/ levels tested at MGS by a suitably qualified judge. It can consist of club and competitive level skills, passes, combinations and routines. Level 5 and above must attend a sanctioned event in order to levels test and be signed off by the club coach in order to progress to the next level.See more information about assessments and competitions here.
Complementary classes
All trampolinists are able to participate in other classes at MGS to develop their strength, coordination and skills.
When available, they may like to add the beginner or intermediate power tumbling class to spend additional time on their floor skills.
Cross Train with Trampoline and Tumbling
On the other hand, trampoline sports is recommended for artistic and acrobatics members, especially in the competitive pathway as it helps with ariel awareness, learning skills and reducing hard impact as the trampoline is a softer surface. These skills are essential for all gym sports!
Dancers may be interested in the benefits from the power tumbling class, which teaches acrobatic floor tricks like cartwheels, handstands, rolls, and eventually round offs, ariels, somersaults and handsprings.
In 2024 - we will also have Dance Strength and Conditioning component, which will teach basic weight lifting, imperative for injury prevention for the 21st century dancer.
