If this sounds of interest to you or someone you know, please contact the office as this is a program MGS has the capability to offer the local community.
Apparatus
Within a Ninja Gym class, it is not unusual for participants to find new and creative uses for traditional gymnastics apparatus like bars, beams and boxes, or to be combining different apparatus into a series of obstacles. A variety of new skills have been developed within this discipline. Many familiar gymnastics skills have been modified to increase difficulty or include a new takeoff technique.
Our Ninja Class is a mix of dynamic games, skills, progressions, and challenges like:
Ninja course : Like you've seen on T.V in Ninja Warrior! The ground is lava - participants have to problem solve, using different types of movement to navigate a course using all sorts of equipment. It allows children freedom of movement to challenge themselves and create a flow between stations.
Vaulting: Start with easier vaults by running up and launching one's self over a stable box with style and power.
Wall: Climb, run and spin like a superhero!
Floor Tricking: As derived from martial arts and dance - learn tricks like a butterfly spin and kip ups.
Precision Jumps: Use equipment to do jumps from boxes to beams to bars with the precision of a cat.
Safety: Learning how to fall and roll out of skills to absorb impact from heights is important for all athletes, no matter what program they're in.
Tumbling: Basics like strength and shaping for handstands, forward, backward and shoulder rolls all form as prerequisites for harder moves.
Ultimate Tag: Like you've seen on T.V, a cat and mouse approach to navigate through, around over and under obstacles in the Ninja Course.
Bars and ropes: Climb, hang, swing and roll.
Trampolines: Ninjas usually get to use the tumble trampoline for fun and to learn some basic jumps and positions.
Program
Designed to capture the excitement and fast pace of 'Ninja Warrior' as seen on T.V. Ninja Gym is new and rapidly developing activity which encourages participants to use traditional gymnastics equipment in new ways. It draws on influences from martial arts, free-running, parkour and tricking.
Ninja gym gets the body moving in ways never thought possible. It will get your heart racing and develop a heightened sense of spatial awareness that can be put to good use in a variety of other sports (including. boarding, biking, skiing, climbing and surfing).
This is a newer program to Maryborough GymSports, opening in 2020 and has proved to be highly popular from the get-go. It is a class currently for recreational participants.
At Maryborough GymSports the coach has created our own series of lessons based upon injury prevention, movement patterns and the skills listed in Free G Manual (Gymnastics Australia Program).
"Famous for a chaotic energy and strong sense of community, the frantic sport that is Parkour is the newest entry under the umbrella of the International Federation of Gymnastics.
Progression
Although this is a recreational class, athletes move through drills and skills at their own pace. Lessons build on foundations to go through drills and safe progressions each week.
Competitions:
Maryborough GymSports has hosted their own in house Ninja competition as part of the annual End of Year Competition, starting in 2021. This allows Ninjas to showcase for their friends and family what they've been learning whilst battling it out for awards in the Freestyle and Speed Run divisions.
Obstacles, including bars, ramps and boxes up to 2.5m tall are spread across the space.
There are two events, Speed and Freestyle. The Speed event is a simple race through the obstacles, with the fastest competitor to complete two laps of the course named the winner. For Freestyle, athletes have up to 70 seconds to move around the space impressing the judging panel with skills on the obstacles, bars and floor. Points are accumulated for difficulty and deducted for errors in execution" (Gymnastics Australia, 2023).
