Hairstyles
Neat hair is part of safety, hygiene and presentation. All participants are required to abide by these requirements.
Safety
-
Long, unsecured hair gets messy, can get caught in apparatus and if isn't secured properly, it'll fall out.
-
Ponytails or plaits act as whips, hitting gymnasts in the eyes or head, neck or shoulders.
-
Bobby pins and hair donuts are prohibited. This is because they fall out and pins can submerge into apparatus or carpet, which can result in getting stuck in someone's foot or hand.
Hygiene
-
It is a priority to keep hair out of the mats, Velcro and carpets.
